COULD WE WORK WITH THE HAMAS ?

After many years of Fatah's domination, the Islamist movement Hamas has won the last Palestinian parliamentary elections. As a logical consequence of this victory, the next Palestinian Prime Minister might be a member of the radical movement. Hamas has observed a long-time ceasefire, but still officially wants the destruction of Israel. The Israeli government has refused to work with them, as long as they don’t give up their ideology. Hamas doesn’t really refuse to recognize Israel, but wants first the return to the borders of 1967, and the right of return for the refugees. The US and the European Union agree with Israel. But Putin has received Hamas leaders. He thinks we must deal with the future legal Palestinian government. Some people think the Hamas could be the « peace party », because it is highly disciplined, and can practise « real politics ».
