What is Corsica ?

" Often conquered, never subdued ". This proverb is like Corsica, mysterious.

This mystery comes from an extraordinary mixture which takes shape in the mind, as in a crucible.

This mystery is Corsica with its extensive and tumultuous history, because of its geographical situation and its resources, but also with its current affairs and its recent past.

What is detrimental is that this noisy reality, easily showcased by media craving for action and events, becomes more important than a past, a way of being, a quality of life which are the founding elements of the 'Corsican spirit'.

The aim of this web review is to show what Corsica is really like, from an internal point of view.

Because an external point of view, the situation is not idyllic. Indeed, apart from a few 'privileged' people who have the means to judge by themselves and in a large majority fall in love with this country and its population, the image of Corsica and of Corsicans is disastrous.

Why ?

The answer is at the same time simple and complex because you will learn that everything that concerns Corsica is like that.

First of all, because the sound of bombs drowns the silence or the discontent of the majority, silent, but a majority, anyway.

The culprits of this situation are numerous and my purpose is not to point them out.

Then, and in so far as we must call a spade a spade, it is impossible to deny that Corsicans are victims of prejudices, of preconceptions, of false jokes and of a caricatural vision which are means to conceal a racism which is not recognized to be so.

Corsica has been french since1768. In order to show that Corsicans are deeply French in spite of their sturdy character of a mediterranean people, I suggest a (re)discovery of this island by way of a historical approach. Then, we will explore the geography and its stakes before studying Corsica's economical situation.
